Needs List:

Not a needs list anymore, but a "missed birds" list.

Code 1 birds needed: (94 seen)
  1. Bohemian Waxwing (seen late in the year, I believe at Bridgeport)
Code 2 Birds (63 seen)
  1. American Avocet (none reported for the year on eBird)
Code 3 birds (37 seen)
  1. Greater Sage-Grouse (sightings near Mansfield, mostly East of town if you're looking)
  2. Sharp-tailed Grouse (Two sightings at Big Bend! Just none for me)
  3. Vaux's Swift (there was at least one sighting near East Wenatchee, but I still think that North of Grand Coulee is the place to look)
  4. Rufous Hummingbird (just 4-5 birds reported all year, and Jerry from East Wenatchee noted that they were absent from his feeder)
  5. Semipalmated Plover (none this year)
  6. Black Tern (none this year, and actually it was hard to even find eBird sightings)
  7. Black-crowned Night-Heron (One was seen in the fall at Porter's Pond)
  8. Barn Owl (just a miss. They're out there, but I didn't start early enough, thinking I'd just stumble across one. Bridgeport Bar would have been a fine spot, and birds were indeed seen there in late fall/winter)
  9. Gyrfalcon (several sightings on the plateau - all hidden from eBird)
  10. Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch (Several sightings on the plateau, including a repeat sighting on some powerlines near St. Andrews)
  11. Common Redpoll (a few sightings here and there on the plateau)
Additional code 4/5 birds seen during the year:

White-winged Scoter and Surf Scoter: BOTH at Jameson Lake in December and November respectively.
Long-tailed Duck: March, seen from Okanogan
Red-breasted Merganser: several sightings between Banks Lake and the Columbia
Clark's Grebe: Late February on the Columbia - 4 of them!
Black-bellied Plover: Waterville STP in fall
Parasitic Jaeger: September near East Wenatchee
Short-billed Gull, Sabine's Gull, Iceland Gull, Glaucous Gull: September for the Sabines, and winter months for the others. I was just lacking a really good spot to look over many gulls. And skill.
Forster's Tern: May - not surprisingly on the Columbia nearly in Grant County
Yellow-billed Loon: Whoops, didn't chase it. I was up on Badger Mountain, picking up owls and finches that morning!
American Bittern: Waterville STP spring
Harris's Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, and... Clay-colored Sparrow? Not sure on the last, but the others were picked up at various times early in the year.
Barred Owl: Grr.
Pacific-slope Flycatcher: June, East Wenatchee.
Blue Jay: Early in the year - Bridgeport. This would have been a new state bird for me. I'm sure I'll get that one eventually!

I may have missed something here, but clearly there were a lot of good birds I missed! That was to be expected.

End-of-the-Year Round Up

204! I was pretty happy with that result, in the end. A couple species I'd really hoped to see did evade me this year (Sharp-tailed Grou...
